When Life Gives You Traffic? Jam Out to Old School Hip-Hop!

This post has absolutely nothing to do with writing. But I have found a cure all for grumpy car trips!

See, in the outer banks (OBX) Husband and I had a wedding to go to. On a Saturday. And it was pouring outside. Traffic was so bad, the GPS kept giving us news like this:
Yeah. 4.7 miles in 32 minutes. And that minute estimation? It grew. When we had 4.3 miles left to go, we were looking at freaking 45 minutes.

Needless to say, Husband and I became exceedingly cranky as the minutes clocked by. Okay, truth be told? Husband stayed quiet and I became exceedingly cranky, but whatevs.

THEN I had this brilliant idea: I decided we should rock out to some old school hip-hop and found the perfect station. For the rest of those 32 45 65 minutes, we were dancing around to songs like:
and
Which lead to:
See that? Smiles despite the rain and centimeter by centimeter crawling!

Yep, so my new theory is that old school hip-hop can cure everything.

Plus, then we got to the wedding right as the sun came out and got to take pictures like this:
and like this:

  1. Not gonna lie... One of my favorite rap lyrics -- purely for the unintentional humor aspect -- is "You'se a fine m***** f*****..." (from Back That Azz Up). I mean, who calls a woman an MF? Seriously. Who does that!

    I envision the following situation:

(Old married couple sitting on porch.)

Lady: Honey bunny, would you like some iced tea?
Man: Yes, my precious little m***** f*****.
    Lady: Word.

  2. Hahaha. Dude, a couple years ago when I went to the OBX, we had ridiculous traffic, too... I wonder if there's a pattern there.

  3. I love OBX! I haven't been there in six years, though. Though not as beautiful, the Jersey shore is much closer! That last picture is gorgeous.

Jamming to old school music is a terrific cure for the cranks and grumps. I'm glad you made it through the rain and traffic with beaming smiles!

  4. Sounds like fun! I'll have to keep that in mind for the upcoming summer road trip with the kids. The trick will be finding music we all agree on...

  6. OMG, you guys look amazing. So beautiful, the two of you.

What a frigging long time to be stuck in traffic. But you guys found a way to cure your blues with hip hop--that's awesome.

I want to go to the OBX and listen to hiphop and go to beautiful beachside weddings. Waaaaaa. *Pokes out lower lip*

  8. I recently downloaded Knockin' Boots by Candyman. While I was in the car on a road trip with my family. True story.

  9. That looks so beautiful! And of course, old school hip hop is the easiest way to get in a good mood, ever! That's why I blast it when I am cleaning the house. Just because you're scrubbing toilets doesn't mean you can't dance!

  10. This is precious. Honestly, is anything better thank old school gansta hip hop on a road trip? No, there is not.

    You're cute and stuff.

  11. Haha! Aw, how fun. Glad you had a good trip! Rob and I always play 20 questions when we're tired or cranky or in a bad mood. It always cracks us up. And now, feel free to think about how nerdy we are.
