My November: NaNo(Wra)Mo

Last November, I was half way done with a manuscript, so I couldn't do NanoWriMo, because you're supposed to write something totally new.

This year?

SAME FREAKING THING!!

I'm bummed because I think NaNoWriMo sounds like so much fun. Just taking a month to write my ass off? WIN.

But I'm around the halfway point of a WIP that I'm absolutely in love with. And I don't want to break from it for something new for NaNoWriMo.

So, I'm making November my NaNoWraMo!! Yep, National Novel WRAP-UP Month!! (Yeah, I'm a nerd... I made my own little badge.)

NaNoWraMo. Only one letter different in the acronym, and I'll follow the rest of the NaNoWriMo guidelines--but this way I can work on wrapping up my WIP!! I'll either write 50,000 words, or finish my manuscript, whichever comes first!

Anyone else in this position wanna join me? Leave your email addy in the comments and we'll do something fun to keep track of progress :) And of course, celebrate at the end of the month!!

Thanks for stopping by!
Sara

  1. This is such a great idea! If I don't finish outlining my NaNoWriMo novel, I may decide to finish up a story that I started over the summer. :)

  2. Oh count me in!!! I've started my new project, though it's on pause right now while I finish editing the new first chapter of my other project (and doing all the other edits to the ms because of it). But I'm hoping to get started again on my new wip starting November 1st (if not sooner). :D

  3. Great idea! We need something for everyone who has a WiP, too! (And I like the badge!)

  4. Good luck wrapping up your novel! I'm putting off editing/revising an old novel to do NaNo next month.

  5. Yay! I'm in the middle of a WiP that I want to finish, too, so this is just perfect! I was feeling so left out :)

  6. Ugh, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do! I'm in the middle of an MS, but it's a Shiny New Idea, so who knows how long it will last. I've also got some editing I need to be doing, but I'm kinda in denial about that. Soooooo...I'm still making up my mind. BUT - I will be writing 50000 words in November, no matter what!

Oh, and you and Elana Johnson need to get together (http://elanajohnson.blogspot.com/2010/10/you-knew-it-was-coming.html). She's in the same spot you are. :/

  8. I'll bite! I'm going to try to add another 45-50K to my novel in progress to wrap it up, so this sounds perfect for me.

    Good luck, Sara!

  9. I'm still in the middle of revision hell (yes, still. *sigh*) so I SHOULD stay the course and finish revisions (I'd hoped to be done by Nov. 1st. Ain't gonna happen. Not even close.)
BUT, I LOVE nano-ing, and I'm sick of revising. Sick. Of. It.
Sooo, I am going to blow off revising beginning Nov. 1st, and write something new. (I haven't had one spare moment to think about what that project will be, but that's never stopped me before.)

The real trick will be come Dec. 1st, making myself set aside the nano-project and forcing myself to get back to revisions until they're done.

I think we should have some kind of NaNoFinWri-JanJam...National Novel FinishWriting January Jamathon---for everyone to participate, and get their new year off to a productive start. (okay, the name needs some work, but hey, it was on the fly, inspired by your post.)
Because I'll be needing to finish BOTH projects. *sobs*

Anywho, good luck...put a meter-o-matic on your sidebar, so we can track your progress and cheer you on. (I need to do one too.)

You could 'cheat' and sign up to do Nano anyway (it's fun)...just keep track of your Nov. word count...50,000 words in 30 days is a winner whether you you already started the project or not, in my book.

Also, I like you badge. It's cute. If I decide to really do the January idea...will you make me a badge for it?

    Have an awesome week!
    Love,
    Lola

  12. Yay! Get cracking on that novel. Some of us are EAGERLY awaiting more pages. *hint hint hint*

  13. Great idea! I'm totally in--I've got about 30k on my novel at the moment and want to get 40-50k more, so this is perfect!

And your little badge is very cute, too.

  14. I'm signed up for NaNo too but I am also going to be a rebel and rewrite. There are tons of other rebels on the site, so you can still sign up and keep track of your word count and stuff there.

  15. I'm totally NaNoWraMoing with you - and I'll probably steal that wordage for the Write-Brained Network when I post about it and WordWatchers for November. If that's OK, of course. ;)

    A few days until IRL!!

  16. I actually just finished my wip's first draft so I would be ready for nano, or else I would be joining you. I hope you are able to finish everything up nicely :)

  19. This is awesome! I joined NaNo, for the first time, just a week ago and I was wondering what I was going to do, since I can't win with a WIP. This is great! Count me in!

  20. I'm cheating. I'm not working on a new idea... just rewriting what I have! I'm hoping it will get me motivated to write every night at least :)

  21. Good! Get a move on! Some of us have had to wait a bit too long to read any more...just sayin ;)

I will have to skip in this year to do some revision, but I'm okay with it. I'll jump in after I finish and see if I can't squeeze out 50K before November is out anyway. Well, we'll see...

    Can't wait to see you!!

  22. This is fabulous. Just popped over from Stina's blog. I'm actually doing the same thing on my blog; though, you have a much cooler name for it. LOL

    Best of luck!

  23. How awesome. I was a little bummed, I felt like the only person not doing NaNo. I'm in the middle of my revision/re write so this is perfect. I'm in.

    Thanks.

  24. PERFECT!
I'm 23,000 words into one wip and a significant 5,000 into an MG. I hate missing out on the NaNoWriMo buzz but I really need to get closure on something ;)
I would love to join in and get to wrap at least one of them up this month.
    Cheers

  25. I'm going to join you! I have a WIP at 30K and I need to wrap it up!

  26. I had no idea you could do something like this! I blogged this week about what a cheater I was, rule-bender, etc, because I just want to write the 50K on my WiP!

    I'm so in!

  27. Hey, Sara -
After much consideration and juggling of ideas, I am in! I couldn't bear the thought of leaving my current WiP for an entire month. So - here we be! :)

Question: Are you going to be participating on the official NaNo stuff anyway? Forums, write-ins, official word counts and the like?

    ReplyDelete
  28. What a great idea! I'm doing NaNoWriMo, but I'll pass this along. I know a couple of writers who are in the same position as you. This might be the encouragement they need to finish their WIPs!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Sara - count me in for this as well!

I'm just shy of 42k words right now, on my WIP - and I've hit a massive (and I mean of epic proportions!) wall and have been unable to write more than 150 words in the last 6.5 weeks! I have been signed up to do NaNoWriMo for months now - but just can't seem to fathom starting something new, when I've got 50k left on my current WIP...so therefore, I'll be joining you!

Big thanks to Bridgid for letting me know this is what you're doing! :)

  30. I should have done NaNoWraMo. It would have been more fun, and I might have finished. Plus it sounds cooler. And my family might pronounce it right. I hope you reached your goal, or will in the next 3 days!

Yay! I love when you have things to add :)
